The secret answer I owe you.
Malocclusion.
You never forget having a thing like that.
It’s the misalignment of teeth due to the tongue being in an improper position.
I had just returned home from the dentist, having had a check-up.
I remember the exact feeling of finding out that my suspicions were confirmed.
That I had unknowingly developed an underbite.
The truth is:
You would be correct to assume my surprised reaction to the dentist informing me that it may be due to my resting breath.
Or as the dentist referred to as ‘a mouth breather’.
Sitting in my front room, I sat with a cup of coffee, catching up on the latest football news.
When the site of a particular journalist’s jawline sparked that ‘mouth breather’ accusation from my dentist earlier that afternoon.
I’ll be honest, it pissed me off.
Being happier to have someone else’s facial structure over my own made me realise it was clear as day that action was needed.
Especially when looking over to the mirror. It was like seeing the comparison of where I was vs where I wanted to be.
That’s why:
I wanted to endure the short-term discomfort of effort instead of my then current path of the long-term pain of missed opportunities.
And so:
I stopped mouth breathing and started my exercises along with the fundamentals of our second lesson which I will get to shortly.
I’ll give you a hint…. It’s about the importance of maintaining the strong part that may already be in your routine.
Consequently:
I made improvements.
Good improvements, strong progress.
So, I got in contact with my dentist to have a phone call with regards to a question.
Why did something so niche make such a big difference?
Why did the stopping of mouth breathing make my jaw exercises more fun and longer lasting!
Well:
‘It’s simple’, the dentist said. Adding ‘mouth breathing prevents or postpones the results you see from your facial exercises’.
With this, my path became clear, and the light became visible.
I wasn’t doing anything wrong, just like you aren’t now.
And whilst the three lessons were needed for progress to be made.
Ultimately:
Withdrawing this limitation set the foundation for the growth of my jaw muscles.
Dam:
Now that rants over, I think I’m gonna watch an episode or two of my show.
